"Alligator Harbor is one of the world's largest feeding grounds for the Kemp's ridley which is the rarest and most endangered of all marine turtles. The area's abundance of blue crabs, jellyfish, shellfish and sea grass provide an important food source for all sea turtles. The unspoiled waters and beaches are valuable breeding and nesting grounds for marine sea turtles. Alligator Harbor, in addition to being a valuable natural resource, is also archaeologically rich with several Miccosukee / Seminole Indian artifacts and burial mounds surrounding the harbor." Panacea, an isolated fishing village on the Gulf of Mexico in Northern Florida. The fishing is usually better in the cooler months, but you can always find something to catch. Beware the bottom is oyster covered so you will need good shoes, wade out into water knee to waist deep and cast for redfish, speckled trout, and sheepshead. If you use the canoe or kayaks you can get out into the bay and increase your chances, there are a lot of good shallow flats, tidal creeks and deeper holes that hold a lot of fish. In the bay in warmer months you can catch Spanish mackerel and bluefish and that can be real fun. We also catch the occasional flounder, we have not figured out how to fish for them so we don’t catch a lot some people do. Occasionally bigger fish like cobia and even king mackerel can be found in the bay but not usually. In the winter the bay has a lot of smaller but good eating white trout.One more new place for shore fishing there is a public fishing pier on Mashes Sands and it ends in a good deep spot at the mouth of Ochlockonee Bay. It is just to the north of Mashes Sands County Park.
